When all repairs are complete every vehicle receives a quality safety check. And a final inspection is performed. - You have the right to have your vehicle repaired where you choose. An insurance company cannot require you to use a particular repair shop. In fact, insurance companies are required to notify you of your freedom-of- choice rights regarding auto repair shops and parts.
- You are only required to get one estimate from the shop of your choice regardless of whether that shop participates in your insurance companies “Preferred Shop” program.
- You have the right to require your insurance company to pay all reasonable costs (less the pre-agreed upon amount of your deductible stated in your policy) to restore your vehicle to pre-loss condition.
- You have the right to have the same factory quality parts installed on your vehicle as the ones you are having replaced. NOT AFTERMARKET OR LKQ (Like, Kind and Quality) The insurance companies prefer to use these parts as a cost saving measure for themselves. However, you may be penalized if you have a leased vehicle and you go to turn it in with lesser quality parts.
- You have the right to alternative transportation until repairs are completed even if the accident was not your fault.
You have the right to have your vehicle repaired wherever you choose.
Your insurance company may suggest a collision repair shop from their “Preferred List”. This suggestion may even come across as if you have no choice but to utilize their recommended shop. However, your insurance company, only if asked, can recommend or suggest a collision repair shop or shops. New Jersey law clearly states they cannot force or “Steer” you to a particular shop. This is against the law. They do have subtle ways to influence your decision.
Here are four of the most common ways:
- They say you must first get an estimate from a shop on their “preferred” list.
- They will only guarantee the repairs done by a shop on that list.
- If you go to any shop other than where they recommend, you may have to pay the difference of any charges above their estimate.
- If you choose not to use the insurance companies “Preferred Shop”, your vehicle will take longer to be repaired.

The choices you make regarding the repair of your vehicle should not be taken lightly. That’s why it is so very important for you to choose whom you believe and trust to do the work. The result can affect your car’s warranty, resale value and most importantly, the safety of you and your family. So please, make your decisions carefully. Important Tips
- Your car is the second largest investment you're likely to make. Preserve its value and your safety by having it repaired professionally.
- Never drive a car that could be unsafe because of damage.
- Some insurance companies may want you to visit their drive-in claims center before having your car repaired. You can do this, or you may leave your car at our shop and ask that the insurance company inspect the car here.
- You are not required by law to obtain more than one estimate or appraisal.
- You have the right to go to the repair shop or your choice. Your insurance company cannot require you to go to a particular shop.
- Differences in repair estimates are common. A lower estimate may not include all necessary work. If you're not sure why one estimate is different from another you've received, please ask us.
- Choose a shop that has uni-body repair equipment and certified (by I- CAR or ASE, for example) technicians.
- Ask if the shop offers a repair warranty.
